"Branching XXVI"

For this 26th “Embranchement,” I followed his intuition to the letter. So I started with two neurons—or at least two simple shapes that I imagine to be neurons, namely two spheres.

Then I looked for images of diagrams that might symbolize how ideas take shape in the human mind. I settled on a cathedral floor plan and a printed circuit board diagram. I connected the two with what I imagine to be a muscle. But that wasn’t enough.

So, after much experimentation, I realized that, just as thoughts are constantly disrupted, the form had to be unstructured—it had to have “noise.” At a certain point, it seemed to work : “Branch XXVI (26)” would be one of the forms an idea takes between two neurons.

It is produced in a series of 8 pieces (what is an original work ?) per material (it can be made of silver, bronze, white bronze, colored resin, or even stainless steel and gold). I particularly enjoy installing them in my home in unusual settings, such as hanging from a book on the bookshelf by a branch or from a light fixture.

The unusual shape of the “Embranchements” and the delicacy that comes from combining them with small branches shift the way we perceive our daily lives at home. They become, in a way, companions that infuse our living space with poetry—true poetic allies. So where will you place yours ?
